3 Top Ways to Protect Your Home Office
Posted on Apr 26, 2012 under Home life, House and Home, work | No CommentMany people who work from home overlook the security of their home office. However it is important that you give it due consideration, especially if you store sensitive information or expensive tools and products there. Here are 3 tips for keeping your home office safe:
Get a lock put on the door
If your home office is a room within your house there is a temptation to just leave it unlocked as you do the other internal rooms. One of the quickest ways of making your office more secure is simply by adding a lock to the door. The time and cost required to do this is minimal and so it is well worth it. Now, if an intruder gains access to your house, this room is well protected and inaccessible.
Add window grilles
If your home office is in a separate building to your home, such as an outhouse, then you will need to be a little more stringent with your security. Windows are prime entry points for thieves and so making sure that they are well secured is a high priority. Sliding window grilles can be added either internally or externally to your office and they provide excellent protection. When the office is in use, simply slide the grille to an open position and then lock it back closed when you leave in the evening.
Consider the small things
Even the tiniest of changes can make a big difference. Investing in filing cabinets and draws with locks is a good start. Don’t keep your computer passwords and cabinet keys lying around on your desk and keep any cash locked away out of sight. If you have taken my advice in point 1 and got a lock on the office door, don’t leave that key hanging with your other keys or anywhere else that is obvious.
