a work-at-home wife's journey within the four walls called HOME

Using the air conditioner at night and a few hours during the day (when I need to sleep — not just nap but sleep) adds around one thousand pesos in our electricity bill. That’s nothing compared to the comfort it gives us especially when we need a deep slumber. A thousand pesos is a thousand pesos so I am looking for ways to cut the cost of the a/c bill and here’s what I have read.

1. When turning on your unit, put it on fan first.

2. Bring your unit only to an authorized service center. Otherwise, your warranty will become void. Problems can arise due to wrong installation, so it’s important to deal with authorized people from the day you buy your unit.

3. Explore the use of energy-saving plugs, which turns off the aircon once the timer goes off, and automatically turns on the electric fan.

4. Open your windows instead of leaving your air conditioning unit on at all times. Use a small electric fan to spread cool air around the room.

5. Turn off air conditioner one hour before leaving the room. This can save up to 100-kilowatt hours each month. Once you turn it on, close the doors and windows to contain cool air.

6. Airconditioners that are 10 years or older most likely not at their optimum efficiency. By replacing them your electricity bill may be cut by a considerable amount.

7. Save on electricity bills by establishing your comfort temperature, and then setting your thermostat at that level – permanently.

8. If you experience a power outage, make sure you turn off the switch and allow time to pass before turning the air conditioner on again when the power returns.

Hope these tips will help us cut cost in our aircon bill and so with you.
